The Red Corona

Client: Valve

Type of project: Web gaming

Description

The aim of the project was to produce a 3D gaming arena marketed towards a target group that is difficult to reach by traditional advertising. The game itself is a 3D multiplayer shoot-em-up running under Macromedia Shockwave technology and played on an internet browser. The gaming rooms or "arenas" contain virtual billboards that act as advertisements as well as a "radio channel" featuring music from prominent artists during gameplay.

Results

The Red Corona tournament was held over eight weeks and promoted by Tilt.tv. During this period, 35.000 users created an account and played against each other to win the grand prize. The winner of the whole tournament played the game for 114,5 hours, which averages a little over two hours each and every day for the duration of the tournament.
