the challenge

At the 2015 Mobile World Congress Nokia told how they are helping operators improve their networks toward 5G- and UDN- (Ultra Dense Networks) technologies in a controlled and cost efficient way.

Understanding the needs and problems of their clients is what sets Nokia apart from its competitors. Improving operators’ networks is always an investment that has to be planned meticulously to ensure that all resources are used in the most effective way possible.

the solution

Valve planned and created an interactive demo that highlighted the implementation and benefits of UDN-technology for operators. The strengths of both Nokia and Valve are the correct use of resources and making sure that everything goes according to plan. The demo was planned and created in a short timespan for the mobile industries most important conference the Mobile World Congress in early 2015.

”In the fast paced ever changing world, those who innovate and bring new ideas to the market quickly are those succeed.”

The demo was created using HTML5-technology and it worked on large touch screen devices, laptops and as a native iPad application. The visuals combined both 3D-animation and 2D-graphics according to Nokia’s visual identity. 3D-animations allowed Nokia to highlight such things as the idea behind 3D-Geolocation –technology, which allows the visualisation of network traffic in urban settings in three dimension.

The technological know-how and the understanding of both network technology and the operator market made the partnership of Nokia and Valve easy. The ideas for the demo came naturally which allowed Valve to focus on the details with Nokia.

The most important thing when innovating and telling the world about it is acting quickly and focusing on the most relevant areas. Improving network capacity by 1000 times by 2020 has been a long time coming and it will help Valve serve it’s clients better in the future.
